Discipleship Part 1

Foundational Truths of Discipleship

1) Discipleship as a lifelong process

It is a continuous journey of learning about Jesus, being inwardly transformed, and becoming more like Christ Himself.

2) Discipleship targets the mind

Transformation begins in the spirit but must align with the mind.

3) Renewal of the mind brings discernment and stability (Romans 12:2; Ephesians 4:11–14).

4) Discipleship requires knowledge

Growth comes through sitting, learning, and gaining understanding of God’s Word (Job 22:21).

A disciple is a follower

True discipleship means following Christ’s teachings and obeying His command to make disciples (Matthew 28:19–20).

STAGES OF DISCIPLESHIP

Spiritual Infancy

New believers may not pray much, but they experience the joy of salvation.

Youthful Spiritual Stage

This stage involves battling temptations, challenges, and the ups and downs of faith.

Spiritual Maturity

Believers are grounded in the Word, living by faith rather than emotions, and fully convinced of God’s presence.

Spiritual Teacher/Mentor

At this level, disciples guide others, impart wisdom, and mentor new believers (2 Timothy 2:2).

HOW TO GROW IN DISCIPLESHIP

Desire and Thirst for God

Hunger for righteousness and longing for God’s presence leads to deeper intimacy (Matthew 5:6; Psalms 42:1–2; 81:10).

Discipline in Godly Matters

Daily choices should reflect order, consistency, and commitment to spiritual growth.

Dependence on the Holy Spirit

The Spirit convicts, guides, and empowers believers to walk in truth (John 13:26; 16:8).

Being Doers of the Word

Obedience and action are essential. Faith without works is incomplete (James 1:22; Matthew 7:24–27).
