In the Light: My Journey
I’m Thomas Ngei. By God’s grace and mercy, I have been saved and redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ. I serve as a member of the media team at Redeemed Gospel Church (RGC) Majaoni. Beyond my career, I have a deep passion for helping my fellow youth experience transformation and remain rooted in the Word of God. This desire comes from my own experiences as a young person, as well as lessons learned from the struggles of close friends and peers.
Life before Salvation:
From my high school days, I faced significant peer pressure, much of which affected me deeply and led me down a wayward path. During my time in college, the influence around me pushed me toward drug abuse and occasional alcohol consumption. Despite my Christian upbringing, I knew deep down that the “fun” I was seeking wasn’t in alignment with God’s will for my life. I felt convicted to change, but navigating that transformation was a struggle.
Life in Salvation:
After University, by God’s grace, I joined an organization that had a Christian fellowship. Through this fellowship and consistent Bible reading, I began to feel a powerful conviction to change my ways. I gave up the alcohol I occasionally drank and started making a commitment to live for Christ. I also deepened my prayer life, praying for transformation not only in myself but also for my friends who used to party with me.
The daily Bible readings and the fellowship at my workplace ultimately led me to join Redeemed Gospel Church Majaoni in 2023. Under the guidance of Pastor John Mwakio, I have grown in my faith and come to understand the depths of God’s Word. Through this journey, I have learned that salvation is a continuous journey, and though temptations sometimes pull me back to my old life, I find encouragement in the scriptures—particularly in 1 Peter 1:14-15, which reminds me to strive for holiness.
I am now an advocate for change, especially among the youth, encouraging them to return to Christ. I speak boldly to my peers and younger generations, urging them to turn away from the passing pleasures of the world. In Christ, there is true joy and fulfillment.
Lessons Learned:
The Power of GraceI have learned that God’s grace is always available, no matter how far I have fallen. Salvation is not about perfection but about surrendering and allowing God to transform us. His grace covers us through every step of the journey.
The Importance of FellowshipThe people you surround yourself with matter. My past associations led me down the wrong path, but since joining a fellowship and becoming an active member of the church, I have become a positive influence on others and have found a community that strengthens me in my faith.
Purpose beyond Worldly Pleasuresthe pleasures that many youth chase are short-lived. True life begins when we find and pursue God’s purpose for us. When we align ourselves with His purpose, we begin to place our full trust in Him, and His Word becomes the guiding light in our lives.
My Encouragement to My Peers and the Younger Generation:
Strive to be the change you wish to see in the world. To those who are already saved, live authentically and share the message of salvation with others. Every day is an opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life. Let us represent Christ here on earth, as we are called to do in 2 Corinthians 5:20.
