The Simple Instructions

Luke 5:1-6

• Many times, our breakthrough is hidden in simple instructions from God.

• Peter and his fellow fishermen were experienced professionals who knew the sea well, yet after a whole night of fishing they caught nothing.

• Jesus gave a simple instruction: “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets.” Though it did not make sense naturally, Peter chose obedience over experience, saying, “Nevertheless at Your word…” His obedience resulted in an overwhelming catch.

• Throughout Scripture, God blesses those who obey His voice.

(Deuteronomy 28:1–15) reminds us that diligent obedience to God’s instructions releases His blessings. On the other hand, Jonah ignored God’s instruction to go to Nineveh and instead fled toward Tarshish, facing severe consequences because of his disobedience.

(1 Kings 17:9–16), both Elijah and the widow experienced God’s miraculous provision because they followed simple instructions.

• Elijah obeyed God’s direction to go to Zarephath, and the widow obeyed Elijah’s instruction to first prepare him a meal.

• As a result, her jar of flour and jug of oil never ran dry.

• Life is guided by divine instructions. God’s desire is that we live according to His direction in every season of life.

• Since every season has its own instructions, continually seek His guidance rather than relying on your own understanding.

• Instructions are received by the heart, not just the mind. God looks for a humble, willing, and teachable heart.

(Jeremiah 23:17) It warns against following the stubbornness of one’s own heart.

• Let your obedience flow from a contrite and surrendered heart, for it is through wholehearted obedience that we walk in God’s blessings and purpose.
